The 2008 Home International SeriesTeam Profiles : Sue Ingham & Linda GreenlandThis year's Lady Milne is Sue's first experience of international bridge. Her original exposure to the game came 20 years ago as a pupil in one of Patrick Jourdain's classes, but despite this privileged bridge upbringing she for many years regarded the game simply as a pleasurable hobby. In the last few years she has taken the game more seriously, and competitive success has followed, including this year reaching the final Welsh Open trial. She has been playing with Linda for the past 18 months. Sue is Cardiff born and bred. She works full-time, dispensing justice in Cardiff Crown Court (no, she isn't a judge), and she also enjoys helping her 17-year-old daughter, Charlotte, learn the game. They are sometimes to be found playing together at Cardiff Bridge club on a Wednesday evening where their most recent score was 56.88%. Can the next mother/daughter international representation for Wales be far away? Linda gave up work as an accountant several years ago to have more free time – she hasn’t succeeded in that yet but is determined to keep trying. Linda has been playing bridge for 20 years, and has represented Wales several times in the Lady Milne, as well as the European Ladies and Olympiad. |
